The Maritime Sector of the Future Came Together at DanFish
DanFish International is much more than just a fishing industry exhibition. It also brings together the broader maritime sector — from shipyards and equipment manufacturers to actors within green technology — to share knowledge, build networks, and help shape the future of maritime Denmark.
On the first day of the exhibition, Danish Maritime hosted the conference “Future Propulsion and the Green Transition”, focusing on the technologies and solutions needed to improve energy efficiency in both large and small vessels.
– We’ve been very deliberate in how we put together the program, as we’re covering a wide range of different technologies — so we had to be selective in our focus, said Mia Tang, Head of Public Affairs & Communication at Danish Maritime.
The morning’s presentations provided a comprehensive picture of the vessels of the future — from the potential of methanol and ammonia as alternative fuels, to the foresight of major engine manufacturers and the challenges that still lie ahead.
– If we know what’s happening with the larger vessels, we can be sure the technology will eventually trickle down to the smaller ones, explained Mia Tang.
The afternoon focused on energy efficiency, offering concrete examples of how both new builds and existing vessels can reduce their carbon footprint and operating costs. The day concluded with a presentation from the Danish Technological Institute, showcasing a project centered on small-scale fishing vessels.
The conference painted a clear picture of both the opportunities and limitations across the maritime sector — and emphasized just how vital cross-sector collaboration is.
– What’s important to us is looking at how we can support one another. Danish Maritime aims to advise and inspire, and there’s great interest among the stakeholders in sharing knowledge and solutions. We hope people left the conference not only technically better informed but also with a clearer sense of how far we’ve come — not just in fisheries, but across the entire maritime industry in Denmark, concluded Mia Tang.
