Greenlandic Minister of Fisheries at DanFish: “This is an important trade fair that Greenlandic stakeholders are happy to participate in”
DanFish International is one of Europe’s leading fisheries trade fairs — a fact reflected in the caliber of the guests who prioritize attending. This year, the Greenlandic Minister for Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture and Self-Sufficiency, Peter Borg, also took part in DanFish, highlighting the fair as a key meeting point.
Today marks the opening of the third and final day of this edition of DanFish International. After over a year of preparations, and with the event nearing its conclusion, the organizers once again report strong satisfaction from both exhibitors and visitors.
The significance of DanFish International to the fishing industry has also been underlined by the participation of several prominent figures within the sector. For instance, Greenland’s Minister for Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture and Self-Sufficiency, Peter Borg, chose to spend valuable time from his schedule to attend the fair.
– I’ve done so because DanFish is an important event — and it has been for a long time. It’s also a fair that Greenlandic stakeholders are happy to be part of. It’s become a tradition for them to attend, coming here to discover new products, new partners, and even shipyards to commission new vessels. So naturally, it’s important that I, as the responsible minister, am also here, explains Peter Borg.
The fishing industry is Greenland’s largest and most important sector, making DanFish a natural gathering point for many exhibitors and visitors from Greenland.
– There’s obviously a lot of networking going on, and DanFish also provides an opportunity to speak with many stakeholders based in Greenland — people you might not see regularly, given how vast the country is. But during these days in Aalborg, everyone is gathered, which allows us to meet and talk about the things that matter to us, adds Peter Borg.
New Fisheries Trade Fair Coming to Nuuk
Although DanFish International remains a key event for Greenland, it’s also important to host fisheries trade fairs locally in Greenland. In addition to organizing DanFish International, Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center is also behind PolarExpo – Fishing & Hunting, held every other year in Ilulissat. And in May 2026, they will launch a new event: ArcticExpo, in collaboration with Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. ArcticExpo will also focus on fisheries and hunting — but this time located in Nuuk.
– It’s extremely important to have fisheries trade fairs in Greenland. First and foremost, we’re looking forward to seeing how the new fair in Nuuk will take shape. It’s very important for all the businesspeople in Greenland — especially those who don’t travel down here to DanFish — that there is also a fair, and in fact soon two fairs, in Greenland. We’re very happy about that, says Peter Borg.
The plan is to alternate the two events so that there is a fisheries and hunting trade fair in Greenland every year. And according to Peter Borg, there’s room for both.
– I believe there’s room for two. It’s a long way from the southern parts of Greenland to Ilulissat, and now that Nuuk has a new airport, it’s become easier for those living in South Greenland to travel to a fair in Nuuk. So we’ll see different groups attending the different fairs.
It’s also clear that the Greenlandic minister intends to prioritize participating in the fairs held in Greenland.
– If we have the opportunity, I would of course very much like to participate in the trade fairs in Greenland as well, says Peter Borg.
