Aalborg Once Again Becomes the World’s Blue Capital at DanFish International 2025
A global meeting place for the blue sector – and a vital part of Aalborg’s DNA
For the 29th time, DanFish International brings together the global frontrunners of the fishing industry in Aalborg. More than 400 exhibitors from 30 countries, 12,000–15,000 visitors from 50 nations, and three days filled with networking, innovation, and sustainable solutions will converge in the heart of Aalborg from 7–9 October 2025.
In his opening speech, Nicolaj Holm, CEO of Aalborg Congress & Culture Center (AKKC), welcomed guests on behalf of the organizers and addressed the current state of the industry:
“The fishing industry is facing major challenges. There are many discussions about sustainability, the marine environment, fisheries management, and new political measures that affect the industry’s conditions and future. That’s why DanFish is more relevant than ever,” he said.
This year, both the aquaculture exhibition DanAqua and the NordicRAS Conference return as part of the DanFish program. At the same time, Danish Maritime is hosting a conference focusing on green propulsion and future technologies.
In Hall F, visitors can also experience a brand-new Greenland Pavilion, where fishing and culture come together through tastings, storytelling, and engaging activities.
A key part of Aalborg’s history
Aalborg’s mayor, Lasse Frimand Jensen, also welcomed the many international guests:
“DanFish is part of Aalborg’s history and DNA. Once, Aalborg’s harbor was a closed industrial area, today it’s a vibrant urban space and a symbol of the transformation we’ve undergone. We want to attract the world to Aalborg and send Aalborg out into the world. That’s exactly what we do with DanFish International.”
50 years of networking, partnerships, and innovation
Sebastian Schwarz, CEO of the Danish Export Association, concluded the opening ceremony with a look back at the fair’s 50-year legacy:
“Since 1974, DanFish has connected fishermen and suppliers across borders. We’re not just buying and selling products, we’re creating partnerships that drive innovation and the green transition. That’s only possible through collaboration across industries and across the globe. That’s why DanFish International is the place to be.”
With those words, the fair was officially declared open and once again, Aalborg takes center stage as the global capital of the blue sector.
